Book Your ConsultationTreat thread veins one vessel at a time
Thread veins, also called broken capillaries or telangiectasia, are the fine red and purple lines that show on the face, often beside the nose and across the cheeks. They are not dangerous, but they can be hard to cover with make-up.
Shannon uses advanced electrolysis with Sterex equipment. A very brief pulse of heat seals each vein from the inside, so the energy goes into the vein being treated rather than the skin around it.

What can be treated
Advanced electrolysis suits the fine vessels on the face. Shannon checks every vein at your consultation to make sure it’s right for treatment.

Thread veins
Also called broken capillaries or telangiectasia. Fine red or purple lines, often beside the nose and across the cheeks.

Spider naevi
A small red spot with fine veins spreading out from it, treated in the same precise way.
How advanced electrolysis works
The tiny blood vessels near the surface of your skin spend a lifetime opening and closing to help regulate your temperature. Over time some stop closing and stay permanently widened, so they show through the skin.
A sterile probe about the thickness of a hair rests on the skin directly over the vein, and a very brief pulse of heat seals that section of vessel. It collapses, and over the following weeks your body breaks it down and absorbs it.
Consultation and patch test
Shannon looks at your veins under magnification, goes through your medical history and anything relevant such as rosacea or recent sun exposure, and treats a small test area.
Your treatment plan
Once the test area has settled over a few days, you agree which veins to treat, how many sessions you’re likely to need and what it will cost.
Your treatment
Each vein is treated in turn. A few isolated veins can be a short appointment, while more widespread veins are treated over a course of sessions.
Aftercare and what to know
Thread vein treatment needs very little downtime, but a few simple steps help your skin settle.
After your treatment
Some swelling or warmth is normal and usually fades within hours or days.
Follow Shannon’s aftercare advice to help your skin settle more quickly.
Protect your skin with SPF whenever you’re outdoors.
Good to know
Thread veins can be linked to genetics, harsh weather, sudden changes in temperature, smoking, and pregnancy and childbirth.
A treated vein won’t return, but new ones can appear depending on the cause.
Shannon will give you guidance on reducing the chance of new veins at your consultation.
Your thread vein questions answered
Does thread vein removal hurt?
It varies from person to person. Most clients describe a mild warmth on the skin with a pinprick or tapping sensation, and the patch test lets Shannon adjust her approach to your comfort.
Will I be treated at my first appointment?
No. Your first visit is a consultation and patch test, so you can see how your skin settles before a plan is agreed.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on how many veins you have. A few isolated veins beside the nose can be a short appointment, while widespread veins across both cheeks are treated over a course.
How much does it cost?
Treatment is priced by the length of the session rather than per vein, because no two faces need the same amount of time. Shannon gives you your price at the consultation, before anything is booked.
Can thread veins come back?
A treated vein won’t return, although new veins can appear over time depending on the cause.
