Book Your ConsultationClear stubborn milia safely
Milia are tiny, hard white bumps that sit just under the surface of the skin, most often on the cheeks and nose. They are harmless, but they don’t clear with squeezing the way a spot might, and trying to remove them at home risks marking the skin.
Shannon removes milia with two precise methods, advanced electrolysis and Cryopen, and chooses between them at your consultation based on where your milia are and how your skin responds.

Two ways to remove milia
Shannon chooses the method at your consultation, based on where your milia are and how your skin responds.
Advanced electrolysis
Using Sterex short wave diathermy, a fine, sterile needle conducts a gentle current. It is tapped onto the milia or used to gently pierce the surface, so each one can be cleared with great precision.
Advanced electrolysis for skin blemishesCryopen
A fine jet of nitrous oxide freezes the milia at around −89°C in a few seconds, with no needles and no anaesthetic.
More about CryopenHow treatment works
Every treatment starts with a consultation at Shannon’s clinic in Upper Cambourne, so the right method is chosen for your skin.
Each milia takes only moments to treat, and Shannon works within your comfort zone throughout.
Consultation and skin check
Shannon looks at your milia, goes through your medical history and recommends the best method for where they are.
Your treatment
Advanced electrolysis feels like a mild warmth with a pinprick or tapping sensation. Cryopen gives a brief, sharp cold sting.
Healing
A little redness, swelling or warmth usually settles within hours to a few days. If Cryopen is used, a tiny scab may form and fall away on its own.
Aftercare and suitability
A few simple steps help your skin settle quickly after treatment.
Looking after your skin
Keep the area clean and avoid touching or picking at it.
Leave make-up off the treated area until it has settled.
Use SPF whenever you’re outdoors.
Get in touch with Shannon if you notice any signs of infection.
If Cryopen is recommended
Shannon goes through your medical history first. Cryopen isn’t suitable if you:
have Raynaud’s, cold urticaria or cryoglobulinaemia
have used isotretinoin (Roaccutane) in the last 6 to 12 months
are pregnant or breastfeeding
have milia close to the eyes
Your milia questions answered
Does milia removal hurt?
Most clients describe advanced electrolysis as a mild warmth with a pinprick or tapping sensation, and Cryopen as a brief, sharp cold sting. Shannon works within your comfort zone throughout.
How will my skin look afterwards?
You may notice a little redness, swelling or warmth around the treated area. This usually settles within hours to a few days, depending on how sensitive your skin is, and following Shannon’s aftercare advice helps it settle more quickly.
Can milia come back?
Milia that have been treated won’t return. New ones can still form, depending on what is causing them, and Shannon can talk you through ways to reduce the chance of more appearing.
Can I squeeze milia at home?
It isn’t a good idea. Milia sit under the surface of the skin and don’t clear like a spot, so squeezing them risks marking your skin. Professional treatment is the safer route.
Which method will I have?
Shannon decides at your consultation, based on where your milia are and how your skin responds.
