Mole removal near Yaxley, with every mole checked by a dermatologist through MapMyMole before Shannon treats it.
A raised or unwanted mole can catch on clothing, get in the way when shaving or simply knock your confidence. Shannon removes benign moles at her clinic in Upper Cambourne using Cryopen, and only after the mole has been reviewed by a dermatologist. Your health comes first, then the cosmetic result.
Why every mole is checked first
A mole should never be removed without knowing what it is. Shannon works with MapMyMole, a mole checking service in which a dermatologist reviews images of your mole and reports back on it.
At your consultation Shannon will talk through your concerns, examine the mole and photograph it with a dermatoscope lens. The image is sent to MapMyMole, where a dermatologist examines it and sends you a digital report, usually within 48 hours. The report confirms whether the mole is benign and safe to remove, or whether you should be referred for specialist care.
Your booking includes one lesion reviewed by a dermatologist. If you would like more than one mole checked, there is an extra fee for each additional lesion.
Removing a benign mole with Cryopen
Once the report confirms a mole is benign, Shannon puts together your treatment plan. Moles are removed with Cryopen, which freezes the mole with a fine, precise jet of nitrous oxide at around −89°C. The skin around it is left alone, and there are no needles or anaesthetic.
During treatment you will feel a brief, sharp cold sting. Afterwards the area turns white, then pink, and a small blister or scab may form and fall away on its own, usually within one to two weeks. Shannon will tell you at your consultation how many sessions she expects your mole to need.
Looking after your skin afterwards
- Keep the area clean and dry for the first few days
- Let any blister or scab heal on its own and avoid picking at it
- Avoid swimming, saunas and long soaks for 48 hours
- Protect the area with SPF whenever you are outdoors
- Contact Shannon if you notice any signs of infection
When to see your GP instead
If a mole is changing in size, shape or colour, bleeding, itching or looks different from your other moles, speak to your GP. Shannon will always advise a referral if the dermatologist’s report suggests one.
