Cryopen treatment near Comberton for skin tags, milia, cherry angiomas and other harmless skin lesions, carried out by Shannon at her clinic in Upper Cambourne.
Cryopen is a precise form of cryotherapy. A fine, high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide is delivered through a pen-sized applicator at around −89°C, freezing an unwanted lesion while the healthy skin around it is left alone. There are no needles and no anaesthetic, each lesion takes just seconds, and most people carry straight on with their day.
If you live in Comberton and have a small blemish that bothers you, Cryopen is often one of the quickest ways to deal with it. Shannon checks every lesion at your consultation first, so you only have treatment that is right for your skin.
What Cryopen can treat
- Skin tags, the soft growths that appear where skin rubs, such as the neck, underarms and chest
- Milia, tiny hard white bumps just under the surface, often on the cheeks and nose
- Campbell de Morgan spots, also called cherry angiomas, the bright red raised spots that become more common with age
- Age and sun spots, flat brown patches caused by years of sun exposure
- Seborrhoeic keratoses, raised, waxy growths with a stuck-on look
- Warts and verrucas, although stubborn ones may need more than one session
- Moles, but only once a dermatologist has confirmed they are benign through MapMyMole
How a Cryopen appointment works
Consultation and skin check. Shannon looks at each lesion, confirms it is suitable for Cryopen and goes through your medical history, so you know what to expect before anything is treated.
Your treatment. Each lesion is frozen for a few seconds at a time. You will feel a brief, sharp cold sting, a bit like a pinprick. The cells in the lesion freeze and break down, and over the following days your body clears the treated tissue as fresh skin forms underneath.
Healing at home. The area turns white, then pink as it thaws. A small blister or scab may form over the next few days and usually falls away on its own within one to two weeks. Many lesions clear after a single session.
Aftercare
- Keep the area clean and dry for the first few days
- Let any blister or scab heal on its own and try not to pick at it
- Avoid swimming, saunas and long soaks for 48 hours
- Keep make-up off the treated area until it has healed
- Use SPF on the area whenever you are outdoors
- Get in touch with Shannon if you notice any signs of infection
Is Cryopen right for you?
Cryopen is not suitable for everyone. Shannon may suggest a different treatment if you have Raynaud’s, cold urticaria or cryoglobulinaemia, have used isotretinoin (Roaccutane) in the last six to twelve months, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a lesion close to the eyes, or have a mole that has not been checked by a dermatologist. On deeper skin tones the treated area is more likely to heal lighter, and Shannon will talk this through with you before treatment.
