Chemical peels near Melbourn, planned around your skin by Shannon at her clinic in Upper Cambourne.
A chemical peel is a controlled exfoliation. A solution is applied to cleansed skin, left on for a measured time and then neutralised or removed. It loosens the bonds holding dull, pigmented and congested cells at the surface, so your skin sheds them faster than it would on its own.
Shannon offers a range of chemical peels to treat signs of skin ageing, pigmentation and uneven texture. If you are in Melbourn and want brighter, smoother skin, a consultation is the place to start.
Who a chemical peel suits
- Sun damage and uneven pigmentation
- Marks left behind after breakouts
- Rough, congested or uneven texture
- Early fine lines
- Skin that looks tired and dull
Peels are not right for everyone. Active or inflamed acne, eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area, recent isotretinoin use, cold sores, pregnancy and some medications all change what is sensible. Darker skin tones need a more cautious approach because of the risk of pigmentation changes, which is exactly what the consultation and patch test are for.
Your first appointment
Your first appointment is a consultation and patch test, not a full peel. Shannon goes through your skin history, any medication and what you would like to change, then applies a small test patch so you can see how your skin settles over the next few days. If it settles well, you leave with a plan: which peel, how many sessions, how far apart and what to do at home in between. You will know the full cost of the course before anything is booked.
What a course looks like
The appointment itself is short, usually well under an hour including preparation. Most of the change happens over the following week as your skin turns over, which is why peels are normally done as a course, spaced a few weeks apart to match your skin’s renewal cycle. Most courses run to between four and six sessions, but the number is set after your patch test rather than guessed in advance.
With a superficial peel you can expect a few days of light flaking, which make-up covers easily.
Before and after your peel
- Retinoids, acids and strong exfoliants are usually paused before a peel, and Shannon will give you specific instructions
- Follow your aftercare plan closely, as it matters more with peels than with most treatments
- Wear a broad-spectrum SPF every day afterwards
